Lisa Ferrant, psychologist in Rabastens
Children, teenagers, aduts
I am a registered clinical psychologist based in Rabastens, in the medical center. I am providing psychotherapy and counselling for children and teenagers facing mental health diificulties, psychological suffering or with learning disorders.
I can also offer counselling services for adults in pain and I can help them coping with the challenges life is offering.
I offer a compassionate and caring environment. I will listen and help you to make sense of what is happening and to find the best means of managing difficulties and alleviating suffering.
Psychotherapy in details
I work a differently with children and adults, as they don’t possess the same tools to explore their internal struggle or to express their emotions. However, I have a flexible approach and I mix techniques.
With children and teenagers, I mostly propose to work via games, creations and projective techniques.
During the first session, I insist on meeting both parents and children. I will ask parents to expose the reason they brought their child. I get to know a bit more about family history, the child’s living environnement, and the major event the family has encountered. If the child is feeling like it, they can also share what they thought about has been said.
Then, I explain how I work (my role, the professional secrecy, the tools I use, the rules in the practice) and we agree, or not, if we want to continue together.
After then , I’ll see the children on their own, take a few moments at the end of the session with the parents to debrief and give key advice on how to support your child to get better.
I am getting in touch with the children and sometimes teenagers through free play, role play, board games, drawing, painting, and even comics creation and writing. Children don’t always have the ability to express what they are going through with words. But they are perfectly able to make toys speaking for them or to use images to get to say what’s in their mind. Adapting my tool set to each individual so they feel at easy and confortable sharing their story with me, we weave together a unique experience.
With adults, I use dialog and active listening as a therapeutical tool.
During the first session, the patient introduce the reason for them to get counselling and their objectives. We define togethe the work we want to draw together.
Then, we will be focusing on identifying the causes of your suffering and malfunctioning. I suggest hypothesis, in a caring and judgmental free environnement.
